‘Trip around Kato’ – subjective guide to Katowice

280 pages in English and Polish written by city activists and enthusiasts.

“Trip around Kato” (PL: Rajza po Kato) is a guidebook to Katowice (city in n southwestern Poland) written by activists and enthusiasts for those who like to know new places, exploring local traditions, discovering unknown history, admiring architectural gems or taking part in urban activities. Katowice’s new identity and original style are both intriguing and alluring. Roaming around is definitely the best way to discover the capital of Upper Silesia for yourself.

The book is the result of a project which the organisers — Griffin Art Space & Fundacja Sztuk Wizualnych — had invited artistic circles and inhabitants to. For over a year, various events took place: workshops, meetings, artistic actions — aimed at searching for elements that form the contemporary identity of a city. The image that emerged from these experiments went on to find its place in the publication, which perfectly depicts this balancing of Katowice and Silesia between the things that are local and our own, and the ones that are global and international.
